seeing the holy man

I found myself outside of an old sandstone building being eroded by an almost-desert clime. It felt very old and the buckskin colored landscape was highlighted by the occasional aloe plant or other small succulents.

I was preparing to see a holy man to ask him a question (which I can't remember awake). I waited in line in order to stand before a great stone basin. The basin was eroded like the building, and it was covered in lichen and moss. I took a pale blue robin's egg and cracked it into my mouth. I manipulated the egg's contents with my tongue, first spitting the yolk then the white into the basin. From this, I had prepared myself.

When I came to the holy man, he had a stout-looking mask on in the form of a bison's head. I presented him with my question, and he transformed into this giant spider-goddess. Her body was slender and wispy with lace-like hairs creating fractal patterns around her form. She began to weave an answer in words and in images in delicate thread produced from her body (as spiders are apt to do!).

goat-love and bird dinosaurs

Was in a city in Norway in the summer. I was walking through the town with my father, mother, and Paul looking at all the consumerism. I walked through an outdoor craft fair, which was full of hand-made wonders. At the end of the booths, there was an open area that was lush & green. A young girl was there with a goat tethered to a leash. She was yanking on his neck & unknowingly causing him pain. She started trimming his hooves & cut them too close, drawing blood. I was afraid he would kick her in the face (because he was certainly thinking about it).

I walked further up a slope and there was a whole herd of goats that were mine! I was overjoyed. Andrew showed up & was commenting on how lovely my goats were. I was running around scratching them behind their horns and playing and having a blast!

Out of the brush two HUGE bird-dinosaurs slunk out. They were kind of like panthers in their mannerism and size, but their bodies were covered in black iridescent scales and feathers, and their feet were like crows'. Their backs were crested with long black feathers like a fin, but was parted like hair. They had very sharp teeth and moved surprisingly fast. At first I thought they would eat me, but then they went after my goats.

I don't remember what happened, but I found myself in the driveway of my grandmother's house. There was a goat boy there with me. He had the head & legs of a goat, but the rest of him was human. He was covered in the most beautiful rust-colored coat, which glowed. I will spare you the details, but my god he was one tender lovin' goatboy.

a procession of animals

was at my grandmother's house (whose husband recently passed). i looked out the window and there was an emu trying to climb a tree. i went outside and approached it. there was a man standing next to it, and he warned me that emus are very powerful and could hurt me easily. i scratched its neck, which was studded with emeralds and other stones. it bent its head towards me. i thought it would bite me, but instead it started grooming me.

i looked up into the sky and then saw a very large woodpecker fighting with a grackle. the fight lasted awhile, and when i looked down i was in a large open field, which was much like my other grandmother's house. the field was surrounded by trees. it felt very safe. more birds started coming from the sky (starlings, bluejays, owl, hawks, crows etc.), and following was an entire menagerie! There were monkeys, horses, foxes, badgers, elephants, snakes, rats, dogs, and so many more i couldn't see all of them. they told me they were ready for battle.

then i woke up.

(at some point, i was speaking fluent japanese to some of the animals-- i think they were those red-faced monkeys...)

blood on the playground

another dream, this one from about a week ago.

i was on the playground of my elementary school, in the section that is a field. on the field, there was a sprawling design drawn in blood and guts. this was something sacred, and was tied into some kind of sacrificial ritual for fertility.

i watched as many kinds of animals descended upon the gore to feast. there were many little sparrows, crows, and squirrels. the animals were covered in the blood as they ate. a fox appeared near the wall to eat, too. the fox was beautiful, with startling green eyes and seemed to have a glow about its body.

immature eagle and eyes all around

walking to my brother's house in memphis with a few people that i did not feel particularly close to. i look into the sky and see hundreds of birds swooping down and landing in the trees around me. they were mostly woodpeckers and blue jays, but there was a small group of crows. among them was a huge crow (raven?) i identified as colleen. i stopped and watched in awe. the people i was with kept walking, as if nothing was happening.

once i started walking again, i saw a small, tight circle of people gathered around a low-laying branch. when i got closer, i saw that there was a HUGE bald eagle on the branch. it was immature, so it had not gained its distinctive coloring. instead, it was striped with the most beautiful and subtle tones of honey-amber-umber. its eyes were also huge, and looked like hunks of amber set into its skull.

a woman stepped towards it, getting a bit too close. it lashed out with its beak & talons, and instantly disemboweled her, feasting on her entrails. once it finished, i stepped (cautiously!) towards it, and held out my right hand. it grabbed onto it with its talons and ripped it open. i shrank back and sort of bowed or felt respect and fear, and i looked at my wounds.

the deepest was on the back of my thumb. when i studied it, the gash became an eye, and as i watched, the eye formed a spiral galaxy around it. when i looked up, i was in a room that was covered floor to ceiling with these tribal sort of paintings (very pacific-northwest). in the center of the room, there was a naked woman with the same paintings on her body. all of the painted forms were sort of cellular, made of sections within sections. within all of the forms, there were thousands of eyes, looking in all directions at once. this felt very comforting and familiar. i knew that the crow had painted these images.
